Oksara for schools

Oksara runs one institution at a time, with its departments, terms and classes set up before anyone signs in. Here is what that consists of and how it gets created.

What gets set up

1. 1The institution

   Your school, with a short code that facilitators use once when they create their account. Everything below lives inside it, and nothing in Oksara can read across from one institution to another.

2. 2Departments

   Science, humanities, whatever your structure is. Classes belong to a department, and a department head sees the classes in theirs and nothing else.

3. 3Terms

   Start and end dates for each academic period. A student sits in one class per subject per term, which is what makes coverage and progress comparable.

4. 4The first account

   One administrator, who adds the departments and terms and hands the school's code to facilitators. Facilitators create their own accounts from there, and students join a class with a code.

Why there is no signup form

An institution is the boundary every permission in Oksara is measured against. If a visitor could create one from a form, that boundary would be as trustworthy as the form. So institutions are created for you, once, and everyone else — facilitators and students alike — joins the one that already exists.

Where the data sits

Student work, transcriptions of handwritten scripts and the marking on them are held per institution. Where that data is stored and how long it is kept depends on the rules your school is under, so it is agreed with you before an institution is created rather than assumed.
